When you've properly prepared the Windows Server installation you intend to promote to a read-only domain controller, or when you've successfully managed such a Windows Server installation, you can use the GUI of the Server Manager tool, to promote it.

Promoting a domain controller using the GUI consists of two parts:

• Executing the Add Roles and Features Wizard to install the Active Directory Domain Services role
• Executing the Active Directory Domain Services Configuration Wizard to promote the server to a read-only domain controller
